What type of screws are best for decking?

Stainless steel screws, especially 304 and marine grade, are the best choice for decking. They offer excellent corrosion resistance and long-term durability in outdoor environments. They also, will not leave stains on the timber like what you get with plated screws.

Can I use regular screws for decking?

Short answer: Yes.
Should you? No. Regular screws are not recommended for decking as they usually rust, weaken, and fail surprisingly quickly. Decking screws are specifically designed to handle outdoor conditions and structural movement. Go either with 304, 305 or 316 stainless steel screws or galvanized screws designed for outdoor use.
Are these screws suitable for composite decking?

The only composite decking screw we currently sell is the deck drive DCSD collated screw and that is for composite-to-steel specifically.
