"I always suggest drilling pilot holes as these screws are not self-tapping. If you are drilling into old sub timber, it can become very hard and brittle with time. I would therefore suggest drilling pilot holes into the sub timber too. These screws are also waxed for easy driving. An impact driver tends to work better than a fixed speed drill as well."

"I have used Eagle Claw stainless deck screw for several years. Unlike many other brans I have never had one fail. Not a single head twist off and they do not corrode and leave staining in the wood. Just as bright as the day they were installed and can be easily removed if need be. I can not beat the price anywhere. Shopped a big box last month just checking stainless deck screw prices. All were made in china. One store had stainless deck screws at $32. 00 per box of 15. Never had good luck with screws made in China. If you want the best get the Eagle Claw."
