The Simpson Strong-Tie Strong-Drive SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screw is a 0.250"-diameter, high-strength structural wood screw designed for wood-to-wood and engineered wood connections. They do install without predrilling (although we do recommend it in hard timber to prevent splitting) and have been thoroughly tested across multiple applications. The SDS features an improved Type-17 point for easy driving as well as a corrosion-resistant double-barrier coating.
The SDS Strong-Drive line also includes stainless-steel SDS screws in lengths from 1 1/2" to 3 1/2", suitable for fastening Simpson Strong-Tie stainless-steel products. These stainless-steel screws provide the same easy-driving, split-reducing installation as the standard SDS screws and the only difference is that they are made from type 316 stainless steel, making them a better choice for environments where maximum corrosion resistance is necessary.
